Is the Pope Catholic?

I don't know, but he IS a socialist:

Pope set to declare income tax evasion 'socially unjust'

Does that deter tax lawyers, or inter them?

Authoritarians are authoritarians. Ideology/religion is meaningless- they are are just clever words to aggregate power and compel obedience

You can divide views on income taxes into three buckets:

(1.) It is wrong for any government to impose an income tax. If a government does so, individuals have no obligation to pay these taxes.

(2.) It is wrong for the government to impose an income tax. But if a democratic government does impose such a tax, individuals have an obligation to pay them (while perhaps also lobbying for these laws to be repealed).

(3.) In some circumstances, it is permissible for a government to impose an income tax.

From the headline you quoted, it appears that the pope has asserted that # 1 is wrong. From this, you deduce he is a socialist. So what you are saying is that anyone who supports either # 2 or # 3 must be a socialist?

That is certainly not how the word "socialist" has been historically defined.

Indeed, there is exactly one member of Congress who believes we should abolish the income tax altogether. So it appears you are arguing that every single U.S. Congressman other than Rep. Paul is a socialist. Indeed, I suspect Paul supports my Option # 2, so by your logic even he is a socialist.

(I'm not denying that Pope Benedict XVI's economic ideas are to the left of ColumbusGuy's. I'm sure they are. But not because he believes there is an obligation to pay taxes that have been properly enacted by lawful authorities.)

I think I can help you. Ever since Google took over Blogspot, it takes a bit of time to register. Some of the Guys are lazy, and would rather just enter the site without all the hoo-hah. So "SWMBCg," if I recall, is Someone Who Might Be Columbusguy.
