That Was A Quick Season

Due to the writers' strike, the ending of Heroes' December 3 episode has been re-shot. That way, if there's no settlement soon, this eleventh episode can function as the season finale. I'm sure no one wants that, so let's hope a satisfactory deal can be struck.

Meanwhile, some odd developments.

First, Matt's dad was taken out of the picture more easily than expected. In fact, Matt advanced from novice to master in a few seconds, it seemed, to deal with him. This is actually what I like about the show--the action comes thick and fast. As it turns out, though, Matt's dad is not the true danger (and the real bad guy was the shock "reveal" at the end of the episode).

We also got to see Niki on a rampage, which is always fun. Nathan talked her down, which seemed like a strange strategy when you've got the option of flying away. Niki now needs the cheerleader to save her. Didn't we do this last season?

The best news is Hiro has finally left old Japan and is back in the present. He's back in the game, where he should always have been. And he's back with Ando.

The worst part of the episode, as so often lately, was Suresh. Here he's been fighting to take the company down from within, and in no time flat, he does a 180 and decides to back the company, telling them everything. Considering the paintings we've seen, this doesn't look good for Bennet.

"...Worst part of the episode...", you wrote. Do you mean the latest one, or the Dec. 3 episode?

Sorry if I was unclear. Everything after the first paragraph is about last Monday's episode.

I thought last Mon. was the best episode so far this year. Even Suresh's stupid confession to Bob was, at least, consistent with how stupid he's been since the first episode.

Although Adam was revealed as Kensei (who didn't see that coming!), I like that I'm not sure he's the bad guy. Last we saw him in Japan, he was bad, but more or less ticked off because Hiro had betrayed him. But he's had 300+ years to get over that - I'm thinking he may turn out to be relatively good, seeking revenge or maybe to stop the Company from their nefarious plans. After all, we don't really know why they locked him up for I'd guess 20 years.

Do you think Adam may be the genetic source of all the Heroes? He has had 300 years to wander the earth (sort of a Johnny Appleseed)?

That reminds me of another reason I like the show. Just as in the first season, they keep you off balance. You're never quite sure who's the good guy and who's the bad guy, at least among the secondary characters.

When I saw Adam at the end (you didn't put up a Spoiler warning, but I guess anyone reading the comments is probably a fan already) I thought he was a very powerful time traveler. He is in a way, I guess. (But isn't Hiro the real Kensei?) And since we didn't see him dead, I assumed he was still alive and was waiting for him to reappear, just not in the present.

This shows a difference between Heroes and Lost, by the way. When a character shows up years later un-aged, you have a pretty good idea why, but when it happens in Lost, you have to wait a whole season for it to be explained.

Since the heroes are connected by the Kensei symbol, it's certainly possible they're all related to Adam. And while he may believe he's doing the right thing, his way of doing it--killing everyone--makes it hard to believe he's a good guy.
