This Is The End

Well, that was a miserable ending to a mediocre season. Michigan started with two losses and ended with two losses.

I've seen a lot of UM/OSU games, and this was one of the least interesting. An underwhelming Michigan gets an early lead, and OSU responds with two touchdowns, and that was it. The Wolverine defense did an okay job, but there was simply no offense. A series of dropped passes and failed third-down attempts sealed the deal on what was a Buckeye team ripe for the taking.

Let's just forget all about it. Next season will have new challenges. The defense will have to improve and the offense will have to reconstitute itself. I don't know if they can, but I won't have to think about it for a while.

This is just the Beginning. Isn't every end that? With Lloyd Carr looking likely to retire, the dream new head coach at Michigan would be Les Miles. Not only would our MPG improve but so would recruiting, play calling and most importantly interest. Nothing is less interesting than watching the "paint dry" offense the Wolves have been running for years.
GO BLUE!!
Come on Les!!!

I agree it's the beginning. Unfortunately, with or without a new coach, it's the beginning of rebuilding our offense. While I look forward to a new offense (or at least think I do--the old one was generally effective), do we have a QB next year. Also, Lloyd, whatever faults he had, kept the winning legacy of Bo alive. Will his replacement do the same?

Since '00, the program has been in a virtual tailspin. They are 2-11 in their last thirteen games against Ohio State and Bowl Games. Lloyd was impressive for the first half of his head coaching tenure, but ridiculously bad in the last half, considering the level of athlete he still managed to recruit. I find how U-M fans have sugar-coated and sidestepped the elephant to be peculiar. They should have been screaming for his head the last three years, but that's not how U-M football does things. Also, Lloyd dislikes Miles and will undoubtedly try to hinder him from becoming the successor. Let's see how this plays out. War Michael Vick and O.J.!

Carr was a good coach, on and off the field. I know several stories of how he met Michigan alumni and stopped to talk with them, rather than just a handshake and a smile. He also ran a solid program without a hint of scandal.
