The Big Day (When I Can't Drive On Hollywood Boulevard)

As a reminder, here are my Oscar picks and Oscar choices. (I did not mention Marion Cotillard and Ruby Dee, though they can't be totally discounted.)

My guess for the film that will take it all is No Country For Old Men, though there should be an interesting vote split.

Anyone else want to go on record?

I've got a feeling, when all is said and done, No Country and There Will Be Blood will split their votes, leaving the other three open to win. Michael Clayton, anyone? Maybe even Juno or Atonement.

Saw Juno last night- probably the only nominated film I saw all year. Really liked it. One issue-I keep reading rom reviewers who like to pontificate that the lead character was a great role model for young women- to which I say yeah! (except for that getting pregnant in high school bit)- I think she is a pure male fantasy - cute, engaging, well-informed, non-cool cool, articulate, knowing smart-ass and a fan of nerd pursuits and cool music- lonely guys of a certain type dream of girls like this.

LA guy after you recover from your (figurative) Oscar hangover, what's the buzz- a woman didn't create this character, did she? This the ideal created by a twentysomething slacker, right?

I'm surprised you haven't heard of Diablo Cody, former stripper and the hottest screenwriter in town.

I'm more surprised that you think the ideal woman is a knocked up teenage girl.

Fearlessly ignorant since 2006.

I turned on the awards as I got back to Maine late last night and saw Diablo Cody's speech and realized my goof- just too damn lazy to sign on and correct.

Please note I expressly excepted the pregnant high-schooler part in my love affair with her character -I guess the film put the ideal woman in a difficult situation to see how she responds. As I said I really liked it but was having trouble with the blowhards in the Boston Globe and "what it meant".
