5 years of death throes and counting!
Because, as we know, once we're in a situation, it never ever changes for the rest of history, so there's nothing we can do, with the exception of making sure the people we're beating win, and the hopes of the majority are destroyed. Sure, we know from history this leads to a lot more dead, usually millions, but as long as it gives us temporary political cover, it's worth it.
