Condi Can't

People keep asking Condooleezza Rice would she like to be Vice President. She says no, but who cares? She won't be asked.

Some think, being a black woman, she can counteract both Hillary and Obama. But African-Americans are voting Dem no matter what. And women--well, that's a pretty big constituency and cuts a lot of ways.

More important, McCain will be running from the Bush administration, not with it.

Condi, African American, young and attractive, is the one Bushie that could possibly transcend the association. She would present a vigorous counterpoint to McCain on the ticket. My view is that she largely agrees with the McCain view of the war and other foreign policy, and is not connected to the Cheney-Rumsfeld axis (she has always appeared to me to hold them in disdain but maybe thats just projection) and the last four years have shown that she is known for loyalty in bad times. Also picking her would likely piss off those types within the Republican party that McCain appears to enjoy pissing off (at whatever cost electorally). (He might be thinking I could play it safe and look respectable and pick some dull whitebread or take a big chance to upset the apple cart of everyone's expectations)

Its an uphill battle for her for sure but the party pundits and strategists won't make the final call so I don't think it totally out of the question.
