Back To Earth

McCain's lead is eroding. It's just about gone, in fact. Whether this is the normal post-convention drop, the fallout from the Charlie Gibson interview or a response to economic problems, I can't say. But it does promise an exciting race ahead.

I've been hanging back trying to obtain some perspective* but here's my political wisdom for the day:

Quick rises are subject to equally quick falls (except when they aren't)

Since the national polls don't matter, we will have to wait and see if McCain's gains stick in any of the battleground states. Is Florida lost to Obama? How about Ohio? Are Penn. and MI really within striking distance for McCain? The economic news this week definitely make this a bad week for McCain. Maybe Russia will invade another former Soviet state and inprove McCain's standings again.

A single poll can be ignored, but not a general trend in the national polls. The states usually follow a few days later.
