Thanks But No Thanks?

Sarah Palin says the expensive wardrobe isn't her property. A McCain advisor responds by telling the press "the comments about her wardrobe 'were not the remarks we sent to her plane this morning.'" The story is stupid, and I don't blame her for being pissed off about it refusing to die, but this dissension is becoming too public, and McCain really needs to rein in his campaign staff.

At this point, I believe there are some within the McCain camp that have given up and are actively looking to play the blame game, starting with Sarah Palin. As one pundit noted, it's starting to look like a circular firing squad.

But while we're on the subject of excess spending by the campaigns, anyone want to guess what those Greek Columns cost the DNC at the convention?

How about $5.3 million? All for a speech Obama could just have easily given at the Pepsi Center. Compared to that, $150K to make the Veep look sharp is chump change.

She isn't going to Washington unless earlier supporter Ted Stevens wins despite his conviction and then later resigns when he loses the appeal and she appoints herself in his place.

Could be fun- have the feeling most of the war in the Senate after that would not be with the Obamians but with former running mate McCain- they really don't seem to like each other much

I tried to find your $5.3 million figure for Greek columns, VermontGuy, but I couldn't. Could you provide the source? Everything I looked at seemed to suggest there was about $5 million in all construction costs for all events in Denver, but nothing actually showed the costs of the columns. Have you got that?

Thanks.

this is the best I could find, which indicates the $5.3MM was for the entire Invesco Field event, rather than just the columns. But, again, criticisms of how much each campaign spends on particular items is really silly, particularly in the context of the entire election campaign budget.

Anyone who's concerned about money in politics should have a tough time supporting Obama. Also, from looking at photo shoots in fashion magazines, I bet he's spent more on what he wears.

By the way, the word verification is "untoxic."

Which was my point exactly.

Now that the Internet has broken down transaction costs for donating to campaigns, I'm coming around to what I believe is LAGuy's view that money is speech. Millions of people giving small amounts looks a lot more like free speech to me than a few giving massive amounts (which looks more like expensive access). Name the donors that you think will have undue influence on Obama based on their (average $86 in recent weeks) donations.
