Could Be Worse--Or Could They?

Much to my surprise, I agree with this list of overrated films.

Agree generally on 2001 and Raging Bull-too ponderous and deep though did like certain scenes,slow-motion monkey bone bashing with the great score or Joe Pesci threatening kids to eat their veggies I'll watch any time.

I greatly enjoyed Raging Bull as a kid. I found it funny and somewhat moving. On rewatching, it didn't hold up. I agree re both 2001 and Wes Anderson. The Departed might be the worst movie ever to win the Best Picture oscar. I just wrote it off as a lifetime achievement award, as did everyone else I know. Vertigo I loved, I guess in part because I dig Kim Novak, so that assessment is fair. But I'll fight him to the death about The Fellowship Of The Ring -- any flaws were purely the result of following the three-part structure of the printing of the novels, rather than the five-part structure that Tolkien wrote them in.

I agree to disagree with a negative assessment of LOTR Fellowship. I can see why some people wouldn't like it that much, it is very long and essentially an imersion experience. You have to like that kind of thing to enjoy the film (or, like me, the extended director's cut). In fact, I think the first film is the most complete standalone effort. Tken together, Towers and Return are perhaps a better film, though 6 hours long. But I find myself rewatching Fellowship the most (about once a year)
