Foreign Objects

News services are reporting the results of the Golden Globes. Does anyone care? Does anyone actually take these awards seriously?

Why should these be any less serious than the other award shows? or do believe the "Academy" of Motion Picture Arts is a real academy?

The Golden Globes are decided by a small group of foreign reporters--not critics--who regularly play favorites and have even allegedly taken bribes. The AMPA contains the top people in the film business.

So its a different group of insiders- the "top" people selected by themselves and their friends. Might as well go with the People's Choice

You may not like their taste, but at least the Academy has earned the right to give out awards to their peers.

I'd say a group of Hollywood plumbers has as much right to give out awards as the motley crew behind the Golden Globes, except I don't want to insult the plumbers.

You know who else worried about insults to plumbers?

(too easy, just too easy)

Foreign reporters at least have an elan and style that is missing from Hollywood dreck-producers (yes they are frauds too but with a different perspective). The Oscars is an orgy of people who agree with each other congratulating each other for not disrupting their settled notions

These aren't the good foreign reporters from prestigious press organizations. This is a small, cheesy group that has no place giving awards to begin with.
