What Walt Wrought

Here's what intrigues me about this video:

1) I like how they play "I Shot The Sheriff" at Disney World.

2) This is right by a wood gate. Were the performers just coming off their break, or about to start one?

3) It made me wonder if I'd rather play a talking character or a mute one. It might be more tiring to talk, but at least you don't have to sweat all day behind a mask.

4) Do I detect a slight Minnesota accent on Snow White?

5) If I were a little kid, I think I'd be scared of a real, live Dopey.

6) Snow White says "Dopey told me all about you, Ella." So Dopey can talk!

Or maybe Snow White can read minds. Or he signs -- that would be very politically correct!

Shortly after I started work we had a family trip to Disney World. Being a gung ho associate at a law firm, I was calling in to check with the office daily. Around 11am Florida time, 9am Denver time, I paused from the merriment to use a pay phone (didn;t have a cell back then). Right after I stepped in the booth, some one dressed like one of the Disney Country Bears leaned up against the booth door, locking me in. Some hilarious pictures exist of me trying to sound serious on the phone.

Anyway, I would feel freer to clown around in a mask.

My daughters got to meet Cinderella on our trip. One said to Ella, "I loved your third movie the best."

The castmembers (I think that's what they're called) often gather in spots off to the side of high traffic paths, not to go on break but to allow for picture-taking and autograph sessions. Otherwise: mob scene. Also, the ones not fully covered by masks and costumes strive for uniformity in every detail. So all Snow Whites speak like that, sign their name the same way ( with the right hand) and are free of birthmarks etc.

Now that I think about it, the characters who do not speak are surprisingly engaging, maybe even more charming and entertaining. Somehow they convey a lot of wit when photographed.

Do they spend the whole day kneeling? Must be tough on the knees.
