4 Outta 5 Ain't Bad
Quite likely the most productive lame duck session of Congress ever for the outgoing majority party, unless you count impeaching Bill Clinton as exceptionally "productive." Obama came into out of a punishing loss at the midterm polls pushing for (1) repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell; (2) the DREAM Act for illegal alien kids; (3) extending tax breaks for the middle class; (4) confirming the START nuclear missile treaty with Russia; and (5) the 9/11 responder compensation fund. Pretty ambitious, and I thought he'd do well to get 2 or 3 of them done. Interesting to see what actual bipartisanship can accomplish, eh?

This isn't about bipartisanship. This is about desperate Democrats realizing their massive advantage is disappearing, so this is their last chance for a grab at power.
How, precisely, does one "grab at power" by making concessions that get Republicans to vote for a bill? What the hell IS bipartisanship if not that?
bipartisanship only works if two sides both play nice. The aim of the Rs in refusing to be bipartisan was to gain power. Once they did in the election, they were free to pursue legislation again.
On the other hand I like Arlen Specter's parting shot (about the only thing I do) that in order to use the filibuster, the senate ought to return to "traditional" rules and make the smarmy bastards get up ant talk for hours
So the public kicks the bums out and they have one last stand where they give the finger to..er, excuse me, it's bipartisanship.

Totally agreed. Extending the Bush tax cuts for the middle class was quite an accomplishment for Obama. The only thing I find odd was how the media has shamelessly promoted the Bush middle class tax cuts for nearly 10 years.
