The Solid Gold dancers really sell this song
Y'know-I thought I recognized Moon in the burqa on Curb Your enthusiasm
She appears on TV every now and then but that was closer to a non-appearance.
Lip-synching to the patter in the song must be a lot harder than lip-synching to a real song, which is more rhythmic.
I graduated high school in 1982, and before the song came out we called the girls who talked that way "Galleria girls" (for the Sherman Oaks Galleria).
Miss M. Unit Zappa did hit a few things spot-on, like the new pronunciation of "Andrea" that had suddenly become trendy. On the other hand, she also combined Valley words and surfer words in her song, which always annoyed me. "Blitzed", "awesome", and "tubular" (which only appears in the long version) are surfer words, and "bitchen" was already on its way out after a long reign by the time of her song.
And the surfers didn't like Valley kids even before the song came out....
It's common by the time something catches on, the original in group has moved on.
I actually know someone who grew up with Moon and was able to explain what some of the particular references in the song are about.
