Timely

I was thinking about time travel.  Imagine you're transported back to September 10, 2001.

I assume you'd want to warn the government about the attacks that are about to happen.  But how would you do it?  How could you warn them in a way that would have them take notice, rather than ignore you, or write you off as a nut?

And as a secondary question, is there any way you could provide enough information without having officials think that you must have been in on it?

Sometimes I think time travel is more trouble than it's worth.

Sabotage each flight except Flight 93, I suppose.

Of course that would mean it would make it to its destination--the White House? Congress? Reagan National?

I've always guessed it was the White House--the most obvious target in DC--but I guess we'll never know.

An anonymous tip to the Portland airport that the Mohammed Atta is packing a box cutter.

Ok similar tips on the other hijackers too if that info is available.

Of course if they are all caught-its a big but not a huge story (because no one will fully realize what they have just avoided). Near misses don't have lasting interest. So the OBLs try again

They went through security in Portland and flew to Boston and connected to the flight that went into the Towers.

Also. I would not give the authorities/ the secrets of time travel.

Of course having prevented 9-11, I would not have any good stock tips either.

Buy a ticket on one of the flights. Sneak a gun and a cellphone on board. When the terrorists attack, shoot them, then tell the flight attendant you were part of their crew but have defected to support America. Tell the flight attendant there are three other planes which need to be shot down by the Air Force.

Once it's all over, the Feds will interview you at length. Your story will have impossible aspects (there is, of course, no evidence that you actually knew the hijackers before 9/11, since you actually didn't). But you will provide the government with such extensive information (all the hijackers' names, their training on flight simulators in Florida, Osama bin Laden's connections, etc.); this will include so much information that is either classified or simply unknown to the FBI/CIA that they will have no choice but to believe that you are either who you say you are, or you are an agent of a foreign intelligence agency that's years ahead of them. They will never suspect the truth (that you learned all this information from Wikipedia in 2017).

Finally, they won't be able to charge you with any crime except gun possession, and as you just saved hundreds of lives, they won't want to do that. So they let you go. Then you return to your time machine.

Arrive on September 10 in your time machine. Go straight to the World Trade Center and remove all the C-30 devices from the two towers and from Building 7. Send a note to Dick Cheney saying, "The World Trade Center is safe. You'll need to do better than that to foil me! HA HA HA!"
